  1. My great grandfather G Aspland was manager of the New Theatre in the early 20th century..about 1910 when my grandmother Harriet was born illegitimately. Her mother was an usherette....

  2. Yes, Ive read the name Aspland in the books on Boston's history. I remember going to the New Theatre as a small boy and (like a lot of people I talk to) my memory is of the pillars being in the way if you got the wrong seat. Oh! the things we remember!!

  3. My grabdmother was raised by her sister and husband..the Bells..and never spoke of her real parents (tho we think one..called 'Aunt' was her mother whom we sometimes stayed with at Holland Fen farm)..she married Thos Brackenbury of Gosberton...The Asplands were also partners with the Howlands and built and operated Fairground rides and Carousels...one of which survives in the fair circuit and is stored near Boston by its owner..a Brackenbury...lifes little iroies...

  4. I think Sea on Land terrace (in Main Ridge) was owned by a Fairground operator and nearby in the old garage near Vauxhall bridge is embedded a carved head from the actual fairground ride.
