Drinking Fountain

This drinking fountain stands at the top of the River Stairway facing Stanbow Lane and the present-day HSBC bank.

It was presented to the town in 1860 by Thomas Garfit. In "Kelly's Directory" for 1868 it is described, "This Gothic drinking fountain is of white Mansfield stone with Aberdeen granite, with brass drinking ladles".
